Joseph Kallie focuses his practice in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a variety of arts including mechanical, electromechanical, and biomedical technologies. Joe draws on his scientific background and love of technology to advise clients ranging from multinational corporations to independent investors in several industries and verticals.
While earning his Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from the Florida Institute of Technology, Joe worked in the school’s Synthetic Organic Chemistry lab, learning hands-on what it means to be a scientist – and just how frustrating synthesizing a molecular sensor for hydrazine can be. The skills, discipline, dedication, and work ethic he developed in the lab stuck with him as he pursued his Juris Doctor from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and now as an associate with The Dobrusin Law Firm.
Although Joe has not practiced any gene splicing and manipulation, or performed any anhydrous reactions since leaving Florida, he does stay abreast of new technologies and the changing intellectual property laws that affect his clients’ portfolios and investments. A member of the State Bar of Michigan, Joe is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and an active participant in the Michigan Intellectual Property Inn of Court.
In his free time, Joe enjoys hanging out with his floppy-ear Plott Hound, Paisley, and rehabilitating and restoring classic and not-so-classic cars.
