Eric Kurtycz helps individuals and businesses protect their intellectual property. He combines extensive IP experience with the engineering skills he perfected during a stellar career in the automotive sector and the business knowledge he acquired earning his MBA.

A registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, he concentrates his practice on counseling clients on IP issues such as capturing and protecting new IP and enforcing existing IP. He also counsels clients on how to avoid infringing on other parties’ IP, including providing freedom to operate opinions.

Eric’s experience in engineering and business serves him well as he quickly identifies the small details that can make a big difference in IP cases. He focuses on providing his clients with a clear picture of their various legal options and the potential consequences of their decisions.

Eric completed his undergraduate degree in Information Systems at Oakland University, where he later returned to earn his MBA in finance. Eric also earned his Maters of Science in Manufacturing Engineering from Wayne State University. Finally, attending Michigan State University College of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate degree.

This is Eric’s third time with The Dobrusin Law Firm. He previously practiced here from 2006-2012, and again in 2016. After leaving, he was employed as in-house IP counsel with various corporations both in and outside the automotive industry, most recently at an electric vehicle start-up. Before 2006, he spent nearly 20 years in engineering and management roles for OEM and Tier 1 companies.
